Maria Continues her Amazing Ride!
Maria continues her good form at the WTA Tour Championships in Madrid as she defeated Ana Ivanovic of Serbia 6-1 6-2 in 1 hour and 10 minutes to finish on top of the red group and advance to the semis. It has been a great week so far for Maria, beating 3 top 10 players in a row and today's performance was impressive as all of her shots were working - serve and groundstrokes, and was dominating the majority of points. Maria was in the zone today. In the 1st set Maria battled back from 0-40 to break Ivanovic in the 1st game by hitting a gorgeous forehand winner crosscourt. Maria only lost 1 game in this set and won it in 34 minutes when Ivanovic hit a forehand wide. Maria broke Ivanovic for 3-1 when she hit a forehand into the corner and took the set and match 6-2 when she broke Ivanovic to love by hitting a brilliant forehand pass down the line. In the semis to be played on Saturday, Maria will face off against Anna Chakvetadze of Russia. Maria has played Chakvetadze 5-0 times before and leads the series 5-0. The last meeting was in San Diego on hardcourts in August and Maria won 6-3 6-2. They have never played indoors before. This match will begin at 14.00 Madrid time (8.00ET & 5.00PT). The other semi-final will be between Justine Henin and Ivanovic and the final will be played on Sunday.
