Yankees acquire RHP Jonathan Albaladejo from the Washington Nationals
The New York Yankees announced today they have acquired right-handed pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo from the Washington Nationals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tyler Clippard. Albaladejo (pronounced Alba-la-DAY-ho), 25, made his Major League debut in 2007, following a September call-up from Triple-A Columbus. He was 1-1 with a 1.88 ERA in 14 relief appearances, striking out 12 batters in 14.0IP and holding opponents to a .149 batting average (7-for-47). With Double-A Harrisburg, Columbus and the Nationals, he combined to go 7-3 with a 2.97 ERA in 36 relief appearances. He is currently pitching for Tiburones de la Guaira in the Venezuelan Winter League where he is 2-2 with four saves and a 2.53 ERA in 21 games. Originally selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 19th round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, Albaladejo owns a career record of 36-26 with seven saves in 160 career Minor League games (65 starts) with a 3.54 ERA. He has struck out 438 batters in 536.1 IP while walking 103 and holding opponents to a .259 batting average. Clippard, 22, was 3-1 with a 6.33ERA in six starts over two stints with the Yankees in 2007 in his first Major League season. He also spent time with Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Columbus, combining for a 6-5 record and a 4.50 ERA in 20 minor league starts. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the ninth round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft.
