The season is on the line for the Redskins. A win preserves their postseason hopes for another week, while a loss all but eliminates them from contention. A victory for the Giants would guarantee them a playoff berth.
Key matchup
Redskins QB Todd Collins vs. Giants middle linebacker Antonio Pierce.
Ever since leaving Washington to join New York after the 2004 season, Pierce has been a thorn in the Redskins' side. Already a student of the game, Pierce's familiarity with the Redskins has allowed him to get the Giants prepared for seemingly anything the Redskins throw at them offensively. New York has only lost one of five Giants-Redskins matchups since Pierce switched teams, with the only loss coming when Pierce was injured and did not play. In those four losses the Redskins have averaged only 12 points a game. This time could be different, however. Pierce has never played against Collins, and Washington offensive coordinator Al Saunders vows that Collins knows his system better than any other signal caller. The ability of Pierce to pick up on Collins' tendencies and thwart what should be a fresh Redskins' offense will be key to New York's chances.
Did you know?
New York defensive end Justin Tuck has nine sacks this season after having had just one in his career prior to 2007.
