Sharapova Wins Amelia Island Green Clay Title!!

Maria has won her 19th title and 3rd of the year at the Bausch & Lomb Championships in Amelia Island this afternoon as she defeated unseeded Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 7-6 6-3 in 1 hour and 59 minutes. Congratulations Maria!This is Maria's 1st ever claycourt title and she is 1 of a handful of active players to have won tournaments on all surfaces. Maria had a 3-1 lead in the 1st set, Cibulkova came back to take the next 3 games to lead 4-3. Maria broke Cibulkova to serve for the set at 5-4 but Cibulkova got the set back on serve by breaking Maria to level the set 5-5. The next 2 games were breaks of serve to force a tie-break which Maria eventually won 9-7. The 1st set took 1 hour and 12 minutes. Cibulkova broke Maria to lead 2-1 in the 2nd set, Maria re-grouped and took the next 4 games, Cibulkova came back to take the next game and then Maria served for the title to take the set 6-3. In the rankings, Maria moves up to #4 with 3876 points and she gained 275 points from winning here. Maria is still #1 in the race to the Sony Ericsson Championships with 1950 points - 475 points ahead of #2 Ana Ivanovic.
