Mussina (6-3)

Pitching matchup
NYY: RHP Mike Mussina (6-3, 3.99 ERA)
Mussina will go for his sixth consecutive victory on Tuesday, when the Yankees open a three-game series with the Orioles. Mussina has been splendid ever since Steinbrenner suggested he pitch more like Jamie Moyer, having allowed nine earned runs over his last 29 1/3 innings. Last time out, against the Rays in St. Petersburg, Mussina logged New York's only victory of the four-game series with a one-run, five-hit performance over 6 1/3 innings. He has not faced the Orioles, his former team, this season.

BAL: RHP Daniel Cabrera (4-1, 3.58 ERA)
Cabrera has thrown seven straight quality starts, which is the longest streak of his career. The right-hander pitched competitively in his most recent start but fell behind before being bailed out by a late grand slam. Cabrera has been consistently working deep in games and has begun to throw his two-seam fastball much more than the four-seamer.

Tidbits
Mussina has a 52-20 career record with a 3.43 ERA in May, including a 3-0 mark this season. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Mussina's .722 winning percentage in the month is the second highest in big league history among pitchers with a minimum of 30 wins (Lefty Grove, .767, 67-21). ... Hideki Matsui has hit safely in 33 of 41 games and 17 of 20 at Yankee Stadium. ... The Yankees have hit eight combined home runs in their last three home games.
