Bonderman (2-3)

Pitching matchup
NYY: RHP Darrell Rasner (1-0, 3.00 ERA)
In his season debut, Rasner gave up two runs on two hits in the first inning, then settled in to pitch five scoreless innings, during which he gave up only three hits. With youngsters Hughes and Ian Kennedy, who is working out his pitching problems at Triple-A, not around, Rasner has a great chance to stick with the team, and he said he intends to take advantage of it. Rasner didn't walk a batter in his first start and yielded only six free passes in 31 innings at Triple-A.

DET: RHP Jeremy Bonderman (2-3, 4.17 ERA)
The good news for Bonderman in his last start, against the Red Sox, was that his slider was more consistent as an out pitch. The bad news was that he yielded a pair of two-run homers that sank his fortunes in defeat. He needed 113 pitches to last six innings, but he was much more efficient in his previous start, against the Yankees. If he can keep that up in Saturday's rematch, Bonderman could continue his pattern of alternating wins and losses so far this season.

Tidbits
Derek Jeter ended an 0-for-20 regular-season hitless streak at Comerica Park by singling in the first inning on Friday. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it matched his longest hitless streak as a visitor at any ballpark. Jeter was 0-for-20 at Tropicana Field in 2005 and '06. ... Hideki Matsui's 17-game hitting streak ended on Friday, when he went 0-for-4 with an intentional walk. It was the longest hitting streak in the Majors this season. ... All 17 of Jeter's RBIs this season have come with runners in scoring position. He has yet to homer in 128 at-bats this season.
