MARIA MAKES SEMIFINALS IN HONG KONG

Maria opened up her 2008 JB GROUP Classic campaign in chilly Hong Kong with a win today. Maria defeated Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-2 6-2 in 1 hour and 21 minutes to advance to the semis. Maria's strong serve and groundstrokes were the keys to the comprehensive win as Maria said: "I was able to hit some good shots and to serve my way out of trouble." Maria had this to say about her off-season training: "I have had one of the best off seasons that I have probably had in my career." In the semis, Maria will play #3 seed Anna Chakvetadze of Russia who defeated Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia. Maria is undefeated against Chakvetadze having played her 6 times in WTA competition. Maria last played Chakvetadze in Singapore in an exhibition on Sunday and won 6-0 7-6.
